Why Stonehenge?

Stonehenge is the ideal metaphor for how I approach my clients' self-discovery.

Click to see our online wedding album... Ever since I can remember, Stonehenge has represented this sacred place that was impossibly out of my reach in some remote, foreign location. As a kid growing up in Iowa farm country, Stonehenge radiated something utterly magical—something I was never likely to encounter in real life.

The image of Stonehenge was burned into my imagination as some kind of powerful icon, symbolizing something mystical and out of reach.

I never dreamed I would get married inside that stone circle! As if it wasn't special to me already, it now became a representation of passion and excitement, love and commitment, inspiration and aspiration.

In truth, when I told people I was getting married at Stonehenge, some said it couldn’t be done. The fact that I did it anyway stands as testimony to accomplishing lofty goals. And this is the perfect metaphor for coaching—empowering people to follow their dreams and achieve the very things they fear can’t be achieved. In my family, our motto is All Things Are Possible.

To mine this rich metaphor more deeply, Stonehenge has long been regarded as an enigmatic mystery. Many theories abound regarding its true purpose. Similarly, many people regard their own and others' personalities as complete mysteries. My purpose is to help unravel these mysteries and enable others to shed the persona of who they thought they were and fully realize who they are meant to be. I believe it is possible for each and every one of us to be as unique and wonderful as Stonehenge.

A young boy who visited Stonehenge looked around and exclaimed in childlike wonder, "Why are there so many doors?" Not many people see Stonehenge this way! This wonderful metaphor captures the sense of possibility, and articulates all the options that are available to us, all the time, if only we tune in to what they are. It's getting hooked into thinking things have to be a "certain way" that sometimes doesn't serve us. I love opening my clients up to new possibilities!

Many people believe Stonehenge is a "portal" to another dimension or other world. Some have claimed they achieved enlightenment after visiting the stone circle. My techniques likewise provide a concrete portal through which I will guide you toward empowering insights about yourself and others.

Click to see our online wedding album... Regardless of your own associations with Stonehenge, it unquestionably represents an achievement in architecture—a structure with form and purpose. Similarly, my guidance sessions, courses, and presentations are based on a firm structural foundation of understanding the innermost core of human personality, and thereby builds upon a purposeful structure that results in clearer understanding of behaviors.

Like Stonehenge, the theories upon which my techniques are based have been around for centuries. Just as Geoffrey Kellaway discovered where the stones really came from, Carl Jung distilled scattered personality theories from yesteryear into a cohesive "Theory of Psychological Types." Several assessments I employ are based on Jung's theories, and I also draw upon other models as appropriate.

Some experts believe Stonehenge is an ancient astronomical observatory, designed to capture and maximize sunlight on the solstices! In the same way, I hope to enable your observations and shed a light of self-knowledge into your life.
